battery wire melted

The battery wire of the 2017 Alterra 500 I use for work melted. I had it fully charged, cranked right up as usual but it started to act up less than 10 minutes into the ride. The terminals and ground wire are both toasted and melted. What could have been the problem and how do I fix this?

It might be a bare wire causing a ground issue or your voltage regulator/rectifier might have failed and is shorting out. I'd suggest starting by looking for any exposed wires, and then testing the reg/rec with a multimetre. Keepin it simple at first can save you from bigger problems later

yup short or bad ground issue, too much resistance cooked the wires. Check for exposed or pinched wires, especially around the frame, they are giveaways Replace the melted wiring, clean all grounds and don't ride it again till that's sorted or you'll fry more than wires.
