Arctic Cat 650H1 2007 Carburator Vent

I noticed a black hose nipple when I took my carburator out to clean it. It is right behind the throttle at the top of the carburator. Nothing was attached to this when I got this used machine a little while ago, but new replacement carburators show it with a foot long tube attached. Is this really just some kind of big vent, or is it suppose to attach to something.

That's the atmospheric vent for your carburetor's main slide diaphragm, which needs a hose. It has to breathe clean, dry air for the throttle slide to move correctly and leaving it open is just asking for trouble the first time you hit a water puddle. You'll want to run a new vent line from that nipple up to a high, protected spot under the seat or near the airbox.

Yeah, that nipple's definitely meant for a vent line. Wait it kinda still feels weird saying that even though I've been in this game for a while now hahaha. Anyway, you can just run a hose up high so it stays dry.

That nipple you're seeing is indeed a vent for the carburetor.
Its main purpose is to prevent water or debris from easily entering the carb while still allowing it to breathe.
Make sure the new hose is routed high enough to avoid getting submerged when you're riding!

Other setups might connect it to a fuel tank vent line or emissions system. If yours came without anything attached, it probably won't hurt to leave it open even though it might not be ideal
